Goin' Digital Show

Dr. Greg Goins is a veteran school leader with 15 years of experience as a school district superintendent throughout southern Illinois. He is also the host of The Goin' Digital Show, a podcast that features many of the nation's top school leaders, authors, film makers and innovators in K-12 education. The Goin' Digital Show is a member of the Education Podcast Network. Dr. Goins is also an Associate Professor in Educational Leadership and specializes in leadership theory, school and community relations and the principalship. He previously served as the Chairman of the Illinois Beta Club Council, representing the state for three years as a member of the National Beta Club Board of Directors. Beta Club is the nation's largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization with a mission to promote the principles of academic achievement, leadership, character and community service for more than 450,000 active members. In this inaugural episode, some of the nation’s most innovative school superintendents gather to discuss digital leadership, the power of social media for “connected educators”, new models for professional learning, and tips and resources to help create Future Ready Schools.

Jay Eitner is a proud product of the New Jersey public schools. A graduate from Union High School in 1997, Jay attended The American University in Washington DC with a BA in interdisciplinary studies. He began his teaching career in Roselle, NJ teaching a variety of subjects, including social studies, computers, and literacy. Known for being ‘outside of the box’ and for strong technology infusion, Eitner strived to make a learning environment that was both student centered and data driven. Jay received his Masters Degree in 2004 and was hired to teach 8th grade social studies in the nationally recognized East Brunswick Public Schools. During his time in East Brunswick, Eitner has written & received over $140,000 in grants for his students. Grants ranged from podcasting equipment to creating a fully-interactive goldrush experience, where students dug for gold during their westward expansion unit. Jay obtained his supervisor, principal, and school administrator certificates from the NJPSA NJ-EXCEL program in 2009. Administratively, Eitner has served as a middle school Assistant Principal, a K-12 Supervisor of Social Studies, and currently serves as a Superintendent for The Lower Alloways Creek School District. He has presented a series of workshops on digital leadership, technology infusion, and student achievement for grades K-12.

Mike currently serves as the superintendent of schools in the Deerfield, IL Public Schools (District 109). Mike is married and is the father of two young children. Mike attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, with a minor in criminal justice. He holds a Master of Arts in teaching and and Educational Specialist in administration and supervision from National-Louis University. Mike earned his Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction from Loyola University of Chicago, where his published dissertation was on Effective Instruction in Middle School Social Studies. Joe Sanfelippo, PhD is the Superintendent of the Fall Creek School District. Prior to taking on his current role, he was an Elementary Principal in two rural school districts. He co-hosts the BrandED Radio Show on the Bam Radio Network, and co-authored The Power of Branding-Telling Your School's Story and Principal Professional Development: Leading Learning in a Digital Age. Joe was selected as 1 of 117 Future Ready Superintendents from across the country by the US Department of Education and attended an invitation only Connected Education Summit at the White House, hosted by President Obama. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Educational Leadership Department at Viterbo University. Joe was a finalist for a 2014 Bammy Award in the categories of Superintendent of the Year and Talk Show Host of the Year. Go Crickets!!

Dr. Jeffrey Zoul is a lifelong teacher, learner, and leader, currently serving as Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning with Deerfield Public Schools District 109 in Deerfield, Illinois. Prior to working in this capacity, Jeff served as a district administrator in Rock Island, Illinois, and a school improvement specialist with Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), the nation’s largest and oldest non-profit school improvement network. Jeff also served as a principal with Forsyth County Schools in Cumming, Georgia, and with North Shore School District 112 in Highland Park, Illinois.

Before serving as an administrator, Dr. Zoul was a classroom teacher for 18 years in the State of Georgia, teaching elementary school, middle school, and high school English.

Dr. Zoul is also the author of several books, including Improving Your School One Week at a Time: Building the Foundation for Professional Teaching and Learning and The 4 CORE Factors for School Success, co-authored with Dr. Todd Whitaker. Jeff has also served as an adjunct professor at North Georgia College and State University, teaching graduate level courses in research and assessment. In 2014, he was awarded the Bammy Educators Voice Award as the School Business Officials of the Year.

Dr. Zoul earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from The University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Master of Science degree in education from Troy University. In addition, Zoul earned an Education Specialist’s degree from The University of Southern Mississippi and a doctoral degree from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
