An educational leader and curriculum writer, Kristen is a renowned teacher, professional developer, writer, speaker, and consultant on impactful learning designs. She has worked directly under the tutelage of Dr. Grant Wiggins and authored both Professional Learning in the Digital Age (2013) and Unleashing Student Superpowers (2014). A founder of the Edcamp movement, Kristen is also passionate about effective teacher education. Kristen currently leads all of the professional learning at BrightBytes. Kristen has a doctorate from Widener University in Educational Leadership.
Dr. Joseph Mazza is a lifelong learner, leader, and innovator. Joe currently serves as the Leadership Innovation Manager at The University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. In this role, Joe works with faculty, students, and alumni of the Mid-Career Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership. In addition to his work at Penn, Mazza is internationally recognized as a leader in family-school partnerships and engagement, including his service as an advisor on these topics to the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, DC.
Prior to serving in these roles, Dr. Mazza enjoyed a distinguished career in K-12 public education as a teacher, principal, and district office leader. After a successful career in the classroom, Joe moved into school leadership roles, including several years as principal/lead learner at Knapp Elementary School in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. During his tenure at Knapp, the school became recognized around the globe as a community of excellence, specifically in the areas of family engagement, technology, and using a variety of social media platforms to extend learning for students, staff, parents, and community members beyond the walls of the school itself. Based on his successes leading the school in these and other areas, Joe was tapped to serve as the district’s K-12 Project Manager for Connected Teaching, Learning, and Leadership.
Mazza has now extended his work in the areas of technology, innovation, and leadership into the business sector through his company, c64KID INNOVATIONS (c64kid.com). Joe established this innovative, service-oriented venture as a way to support small businesses seeking to grow their client base and extend the reach of their products, services, and resources. As an accomplished digital strategist with a proven track record of success, Joe provides social media coaching services designed to meet the unique needs of the clients he serves, equipping them with up-to-the-minute information, market research, and innovative (high and low tech) strategies they can use to maximize their productivity.
Mazza earned his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he earned a Master's Degree from National Louis University and a Bachelor's’ Degree from Pennsylvania State University. Dennis Schug is a proud Middle School Principal on Long Island NY. He believes that engagement, collaboration, and reflection are key components to designing meaningful personalized professional learning experiences for all members of a "learning organization". In July, 2015, he led the organizing team for Edcamp Leadership in New York. He also serves as an active team member of the Edcamp Long Island planning team. Donald Gately Ed.D. is the principal at Jericho Middle School on Long Island. J.M.S. is a high performing middle school that has a comprehensive school-wide program to develop social emotional literacy; the school was named a New York State/National School to Watch in 2009, 2012 and 2015. Don was a middle school principal in Plainview-Old Bethpage, the assistant principal at Memorial Junior High School in Valley Stream and a teacher of English Language Arts in the New York City public schools. He is the former p resident of the Nassau County Middle Level Principals Association and active in a number of organizations that leverage support for innovative middle school practice. Don is a middle level leader with a singular passion and commitment to the intellectual and social/emotional development of adolescent learners. He was a BAMMY Award nominee for Middle School Principal of the Year in 2014 and 2015. Along with his wife Danielle (@dmgately) and an incredible PLN of committed Long Island educators, Don co-founded EdCamp Long Island (@EdCampLI) in 2014.
